Chess Club

The OLP chess club started in honor of Ellie Carter. Ellie Carter was a student at OLP who shared her love for chess with friends and classmates by teaching  them how to play the game. After Ellie passed away, Ellie's classmates began meeting weekly to play chess together to honor Ellie and to learn more about the game. The chess club has an emphasis on play, but there are also lessons on chess strategy. The Ellie Carter chess club had a year end tournament for members who wanted to participate. The winner of the first tournament was Savannah Snyder.

Currently, the chess club is available to sixth graders and their siblings as well as third graders. Chess clubs can also be developed in other grades if parents are willing to assist with the club.
