WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE! My name is Mrs. Pinckney, and I have been teaching at O.L.P. since 1983. In total I have 36 years of teaching experience with more than half in First Grade.
First Grade is an exciting year because the children who do not know how to read at the beginning of the year learn by the end, and the children who do read independently learn how to be more self-directed and independent in their work! A big part of First Grade is that the children learn how to be students and find that they enjoy learning !
Each year, the first graders participate in a service learning project with the Columbus Zoo. Click here to find out more about service learning and our special project.
Below find some things to remember:
- Shoes: Students need shoes for PE class if they do not wear tennis shoes
- Remember Snack and Sweaters or Coats (dress for the weather)
- Science Labs will be Second and Fourth Quarters for Grade One
- Folders--Check every night (Weekly Paper Folders--Fridays)
- A good night's SLEEP and BREAKFAST are very important!!!
- Homework: Monday-Thursday...Reading or a short practice paper
- Spelling begins Second Quarter!
