Grade 6
Teacher: Miss Susan Byrnes sbyrnes@cdeducation.org
Welcome to the sixth grade at Our Lady of Peace School.
I am the sixth grade homeroom teacher, and also teach Language Arts to grades seven and eight.
I am a graduate of Ohio State University: I have a Master’s Degree in Reading, Language Arts, and Writing, with a specialization in Children’s Literature.
I have been involved in Catholic education ever since my own elementary years at St. Peter’s School in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. I have taught junior high in the Diocese of Columbus for over thirty years.
Grade 6 at Our Lady of Peace School is a year of high points:
- The sixth grade opera, composed of and created exclusively by the sixth grade class during the first quarter of the school year,
- Training to be altar servers, beginning during Lent,
- Lots of fieldtrips, including a day of research at the Columbus Zoo, and a tour of Thurber House followed by a class picnic.
- Special services available: reading tutors, speech and hearing therapist, instrumental music instruction.
- Regularly scheduled class masses and religious observations.
Specialized teachers, specifically trained in the subjects they teach:
Language Arts, Religion, Health: Miss Byrnes
Math, Science: Mr. Roberts
Social Studies: Ms McMahon
Science Lab: Miss Gelonese
Art: Mrs. Reinhard
Music: Ms. Doyle
Physical Education: Mr. Koebel
Teaching grade six is my vocation, and I take genuine pride and pleasure in what I do. It is an honor to teach the children of Our Lady of Peace.
Sincerely,
Miss Susan Byrnes
