Music

Welcome to Music! In addition to this being my 12th year at Our Lady of Peace, I am also a professional musician in and around Columbus. I have sung my entire life with my mother and sister, and have been a member of an all female band, The Ladies of Longford, since 2001, where I sing and play bass guitar. My love of music permeates truly everything I do. My goal is that your children grow to love music as much as I do!
WELCOME to a new year at Our Lady of Peace School! As we begin this time together, I would like to highlight a few of the many ways your child will experience music this year.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING are abundant, both in and out of the classroom setting. In fifth grade, the children are given the opportunity to try out for band, under the direction of Jenna Inscho, and both chimes and vocal choirs, both led by Linda Ebright, the Director of Music at Our Lady of Peace Church.

OUR CURRICULUM is based on the National Standards, and follows the Course of Study designated by the Diocese of Columbus. The overall concepts remain the same for each grade level, Kindergarten through Eighth Grade; however, their presentation and development vary significantly in order to be age-appropriate at each level. This year we will learn to:

ASSESSMENT will take place both formally and informally. Day-to-day classroom participation reveals a wealth of information about each students understanding of musical concepts. It is important to remember that music assessment is not merely a judgment of how well one sings. During class time there are many opportunities for “hands on” participation for everyone with drums, keyboards, xylophones, and guitars, not to mention a large assortment of rhythm instruments at hand. Attentiveness, cooperation and participation are vital to each student’s learning process.

WE HAVE THREE MAIN PERFORMANCES throughout the year: a fall production with Grade 6 in cooperation with The Metropolitan Opera Guild, a Christmas production featuring students in the Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, and finally, a Spring Musical featuring students in the Fifth through Eighth Grade.
