Welcome to the Science Lab!

My name is Miss Gelonese or Miss G. This is my 37th year teaching in the Diocese of Columbus and my 34rd year teaching at Our Lady of Peace.

I am certified in Elementary Education 1-8, Special Education K-12, Gifted and Talented, and Technology. I also have a Masters degree in Early and Middle Childhood Education with a focus on Science Education.

My hope is that the students of OLP will learn to ask questions, solve problems, and enjoy science!

The activities in the Science Lab support the learning which takes place in the classrooms. The activities help the students to develop scientific skills and processes. The use of questioning techniques in lab, help strengthen the students' problem solving and thinking skills over the years.

There are various types of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates in the lab. 8th graders are chosen each year to serve as lab assistants. The lab assistants care for the animals and the lab. They also serve as leaders by helping with special activities around the school.

Outside of the science lab is our Peace Pond and Butterfly-Hummingbird Garden.

This area was created by parents, teachers and students in 1997. Many students and families have worked very hard over the years to help develop and maintain this environment. We have watched it grow and flourish. In the future, it will continue to be maintained and enjoyed by others.
It has become a lasting legacy to Our Lady of Peace.
