As we move through the Advent season, please take some time to visit the church to experience the Stations of the Crib. Each station is illustrated by one of fourteen Our Lady of Peace eighth graders who worked together to create paintings that tell the story of the birth of Jesus, from The Annunciation through The Epiphany.
After reading about the Stations of the Crib, the students each created an image that represented a specific event in the Nativity story. Once the drawings were finalized, students then used watercolors to finish their artworks. In order to add a unifying element, the students each included a frame that was inspired by the border designs on the woodwork in the church. They also enjoyed using fancy metallic paints to emphasize the holiness of Mary, Jesus, and the Angels in their paintings!
Each student who has a painting in the Stations of the Crib worked tremendously hard on their own time, giving up study halls, free time, and even time at home in order to complete their project. It can be intimidating to display your work for others to see, and to be so brave as to create a painting that will be shared in such a meaningful way with the entire parish is admirable. I am proud of their dedication and hard work and grateful for the opportunity that Father Anthony and the church staff has given to our students.
